I have always had a desire to create, ever since I was a child. However, it wasn't until I stumbled upon a group of artists painting outdoors in my thirties that my passion for painting truly took flight. Learning from the likes of Costa Dvoresky, Teresa Oaxaca, Alia el Bermani, Pamela Wilson, and Nicolas Uribe through workshops helped me refine my skills and take my art more seriously.
The biggest turning point for me was discovering Pamela Wilson's work. Her fearless use of imagery resonated deeply with me, empowering me to paint what I wanted and to let my imagination run wild.
One of the most exciting moments in my art career was when I was commissioned to paint a large-scale mural in Nacogdoches. Teaming up with Wendy Floyd and using her photographs, we brought to life the Garden Capital mural on the corner of Main and North street. It was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with an artist I've long admired and to showcase her work on such a grand scale.
My art is all about conveying my sense of humor and bringing joy to those who see it. I'm drawn to vibrant colors, and my recent works feature whimsical mash-ups of animals in unusual and humorous situations. I used to believe that painting realism was the key to making good art, but I've come to realize that it doesn't reflect my personality. I want my art to make people laugh and to reflect the wild imagination I've been told I possess.
I love painting large-scale public art, being out in the open, and engaging with passersby. It's truly incredible to witness how public art can breathe new life into a community and to experience the warm reception from people as I create.
